Itโs ironic that Iโm writing a blog about being too busy to write one. Yet here I am, finally putting my thoughts into words. The past few months have been hectic, and I havenโt made the time to sit down and write. Instead, Iโve been constantly on the goโgolfing, relaxing on the patio, and traveling.
Iโve always enjoyed golf, even if Iโm not particularly skilled at it. Before this year, I had never played more than 20 rounds in a year. This year, I played over 100 rounds, averaging about 15 a month starting in Julyโalmost every other day. With winter now here, Iโm actually looking forward to a break from the course.
Golden-years hustle
Retirement has given me the luxury of days on the golf course and evenings at home, often spent on the patio in the summer.
Whenever people learn that Iโm retired, one of the first things they ask is, “What’s your favorite restaurant?” Without hesitation, I say: my patio. My wife is an excellent cook, and I love to grill, which makes it the perfect โrestaurant.โ It doesnโt hurt that we keep a great selection of wine on hand.
After 35 years as a numbers guy, I canโt help but put it all in perspective. One hundred rounds of golfโabout a round every other dayโseems even more impressive (or crazy) when you factor in everything else we did. In July, we spent four days at Dale Hollow on our way to a week at Wrightsville Beach. In August, we took a long weekend in Seattle, enjoying the weather that felt warm for the locals but perfect for us. On my way to the Bristol night race in September, I squeezed in a few more days at Dale Hollow. September also marked the start of our 32nd year as season ticket holders at the Indiana Repertory Theatre (IRT).
October was packed: four home Colts games with tailgating, a wedding in Evansville, and a quick weekend exploring the Thomas Family Winery in Madison, Indiana. November is nearly over, but it hasnโt slowed down. We spent a week in Germany for the Colts game and then the following weekend at Lambeau Field in Green Bay, WI.
So here I am, finally writing this blog after months of procrastination. Iโll have to come back and dive deeper into some of the trips and the wines we discovered along the way.
