Last week in Fishers was one of those perfectly packed stretches that remind us why we love this community, and this season of life. From Motherโs Day pours at home to local charity events, a Mollydooker masterclass, and even a leisurely Saturday stroll through the Fishers Farmers Market, the calendar was full of good wine, good causes, and even better people.
Sunday, May 14, 2023 – Recap Motherโs Day wine selection
A relaxed backyard grill night turned into a serious cellar raid at Fishers Vino Vibes headquarters. Katy loves a good Zinfandel, so out came a hidden gem from the basementโLangetwins 2014 Centennial Zinfandel from Lodi, CA, a roughly $30 bottle bought by the case back in 2021. The grill menu demanded backup, so a Don Melchor 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon from Chile, a $90 bottle and one of three snagged in early 2021, joined the lineup.
Both bottles hit the decanter before they hit the glasses. The Don Melchor started out deep purple in the glass, with a mix of black and red berries and ripe plum, plus this faint โblowโup poolโ note that was likely the alcohol flashing off at first pour. Nothing really sang right awayโit clearly needed time to stretch out and open up. The Langetwins, on the other hand, showed medium purple with a rush of sweet, happy red berries leaping from the glass, a joyful nose that filled the room. The flavor was intriguing and a little hard to pin down, but immediately likableโand surprisingly clocking in at 16% alcohol.
Only Time is needed
About 90 minutes later, still before dinner, the Don Melchor had completely transformed. The plastic pool note was gone, replaced by a lift of floral aromatics drifting over those dark fruits. The wine had turned silky and composed, with flavors that lingered and evolved long after each sipโthe kind of finish that reminds you why some bottles command a higher price. The Langetwins stayed fun, bold, and aromatic, delivering plenty of flavor and personality even if it didnโt have quite the same polish.
With midโrare 28โday aged Tโbones off the grill, both wines absolutely shone at the table. Comparing a $30 bottle to a $90 bottle in one meal is always a blast: the Don Melchor brought seamless smoothness and layered, lingering complexity, while the Langetwins countered with big aroma, lively fruit, and a lot of character, even if the finish didnโt hang on as long. In the end, the Cab showed why it plays in the premium league, and the Zinfandel proved itself a seriously strong valueโand together, they made the night a huge success.

Monday, May 15, 2023 – Horizon International Golf outing
Horizon International, โCreating a world of hope through African orphansโ is an organization Iโve known for over a decade. Iโve been to South Africa twice to spend time with the kids. What a true blessing. Itโs always fun to get out and join friends in this outing, and a great way to help support this great cause.

Wednesday, May 17, 2023 – Younglife – โCLAYS FOR A CAUSEโ
Each year the HSE Younglife has sporting clays to raise funds for the group’s sustainability. Another beautiful day. Our group did well, and Iโm improving with hitting more than half the clays. It is funny because we say we must do this more often yearly, but you know how the story goes. We repeat the saying each year :<
The Indiana Gun Club is the perfect Fishers location to test your abilities.
From the HSE Younglife web page (see link above)
โTraditional Young Life is what most people think about when it comes to Young Life. Traditional Young Life is our ministry to high school students at Hamilton Southeastern & Fishers High School. We have adult leaders who earn the respect and trust of high school students by showing up in their world. Our Young Life Leaders are there for students in the good times and the bad.โ
Thursday, May 18, 2023 – Mollydooker Wine tasting
Tasteful Times is my favorite locally-owned wine store. Though Iโm not opposed to other stores that sell wines, I enjoy Jon’s personable service, and the Wine Club that has provoked my interest in what I now call my wine journey. And I love that Jon brings in a number of vendors to explore and focus on their wines; this is one of those events. Mollydooker should be fun.
Wow! That is all I have to say. What a wine tasting! The Club at Crosspoint is a great venue. Bringing in wines for this event was the US arm of Mollydooker and the @the_blueeyedboy, Luke Marquis. Yes, it was a wine tasting, but much more than that. It was a gathering of about 20 customers – fun to get to chat and meet new friends. And Luke stole the evening by not selling wines but sharing the stories behind the wines and their winery.
The first thing that happens is Luke shakes everyone’s hand with his left hand. By doing so, he cements that mollydooker in Australia is slang for a left-handed person. Throughout the evening, Luke shares the three Mollydooker differences.
- The Mollydooker shake
This is necessary because they use nitrogen in their process to minimize sulfites. - Fruit Weight
A measure of quality and how they determine what bottles the grapes go into. Not all bottles are produced each year. The grape quality determines what is produced each year. That way, you know exactly what you are getting with each bottle. - Vineyard watering program
Is about how they use water differently from most vineyards.
What a fun event. Lots of good wine and better education. Will done, Mollydooker!

Wines Around the World
We have been blessed to be able to support YMI (Youth Mentoring Initiative) since the first Wines Around the World tasting. This is our third year at this event.
From their web page:
OUR VISION
Every student in Hamilton Southeastern School District is supported by a caring adult mentor that inspires personal growth.
OUR MISSION
YMI actively engages Hamilton Southeastern School students by nurturing positive relationships with a caring adult mentor to inspire future generations and build a better community.
This is a fundraiser and is a very cool event. Itโs been on the rooftop of the RQAW Building for the past two years. This year it is on the new First Internet Bank in downtown Fishers. Looking forward to seeing the new rooftop.
Hors dโoeuvres are provided by Sangiovese Ristorante and Geist Charcuterie. As you know from a previous post, Iโm a fan of Sangiovese. The Taub Family Selections provide the wines. This is more of a social event, but I enjoy that in the past, they have had some ancient vintages, such as some from the 1960s. Itโs always fun to dive into an old wine to see how it has aged in the bottle for over 50 years. It will be interesting to see what they have for us tonight. Also looking forward to the new venue – First Internet Bank rooftop in downtown Fishers.
What a great event and venue! First Internet Bank’s rooftop is a true gem. Even though the weather didn’t cooperate, I still had a lot of fun. And guess what? I got another Colt’s picture to hang up in my house! The Taub Family Selection did not disappoint with their outstanding wines, as always. The food provided by Sangiovese was fantastic, and I was blown away by the huge Charcuterie “board” from Geist Charcuterie. Great to discuss wines with other wine lovers. Overall, it was a wonderful experience that I won’t soon forget!

Saturday, May 20, 2023 – Fishers Farmers Market
Taking the day off from golf gave me time to join my lovely wife and Mr. Mack, our Australian Shepard, to a quick trip to the Farmers Market. Always a good time.

Whatโs Next
Next week is race week, so there will be a lot of golf and outdoor activities. But, between golf rounds, I will continue working on this website and build my plan to visit all 100+ Indiana Wineries. And to conclude, I’ll have a note about Tasteful Time’s May ’23 L (for Linda) Wine Club wines.
