Last night at Sangiovese Ristorante in The Yard at Fishers, Indiana, wine lovers gathered for a lively Italian wine-tasting event sponsored by Tasteful Times Wine Store and Ethica Wine Importers. The evening featured four distinctive Italian wines from renowned regions, each poured alongside perfectly matched dishes that highlighted their character.
The tasting opened with La Gioiosa Prosecco from Veneto, a light and bubbly sparkler with notes of green apple, pear, and citrus that made an ideal aperitif. Its refreshing, crisp profile and balanced sweetness and acidity set an elegant tone for the night.
Next came Villa Sparina Gavi from Piedmont, crafted from the Cortese grape, known for producing fresh, dry white wines. Delicate floral aromas, flavors of pear, apple, and lemon zest, and a touch of minerality made this wine a beautiful partner for Burrata con Pomodorini e Rucola and a graceful bridge to the reds.
The first red was Il Greppo Super Tuscan from Tuscany, a bold blend of Sangiovese, Merlot, and Cabernet Sauvignon. Layers of black cherry, black currant, and vanilla, supported by a well-structured tannin profile and smooth finish, paired effortlessly with penne alla Emiliana.
The finale was Mirafiore Barolo from Piedmont, often called the “King of Wines” for its depth and complexity. With its deep ruby hue, aromas of blackberry, plum, and licorice, firm tannins, and a long, lingering finish, it was an outstanding match for Bistecca alla Griglia con patate al forno.
From start to finish, the wine-tasting at Sangiovese Ristorante was a memorable experience. The thoughtfully curated wines showcased the diversity of Italy’s regions, the food pairings elevated every sip, and the energetic atmosphere left both old and new friends ending the night with full hearts and happy palates.
